This licence was associated with a series of wooden trackways and platforms which were constructed in the marginal forest on the eastern side of the bog (Excavations 1996, 103). The remaining sites to be excavated in this area were completed during the 1997 season (DER218 and DER17, Nos 539 and 543), and one new site (DER311, No. 542) was discovered. In addition to these, a series of outlying sites (DER22, DER20, DER64, DER56, DER57 and DER54, Nos 540, 544, 545, 541 and 546) were excavated under this licence. A further addition was made to include DER1, DER2, DER4 and DER11, which were located in Bawnmore townland, Co. Kilkenny, within the buffer zone on the north-eastern side of the TMF. The sites are discussed below in chronological order.
