A length of recently cleared frontage on the main street of Golden, close to the bridge, was tested ahead of a housing development. Only one generation of buildings was found, the earliest of which was built in the late 17th or early 18th century, overlying an infilled roadside/fieldside ditch. No indication was found of medieval buildings, in spite of the tower-house currently accessible over the bridge.
