Pre-development testing was carried out within 35m of a star-shaped fort on the outskirts of Charlestown. An older house once stood on part of the foundations. All trenches revealed some modern disturbed material, but mainly gravel, and nothing of note archaeologically was detected. A line of spring wells in the gravel flooded all the foundation trenches.
