These sites were found as a result of archaeological monitoring of topsoil-stripping on the Northern Motorway/Balbriggan Bypass in compliance with the recommendations of an EIS. The route included townlands in counties Dublin (Fingal) and Meath, OS 6" sheets 1, 4 and 5, Co. Dublin, and sheet 28, Co. Meath. The monitoring was carried out between 6 August and 31 October 1996.
Six archaeological sites were uncovered in the course of the monitoring and all have been fully excavated: these were identified as pits (Toberstown) and a subrectangular feature (Rath).
