Pre-development testing was undertaken on the site of a proposed development in Knappaghmore, Westport, Co. Mayo, in September 1997. The proposed development lies within the constraint of SMR 88:53, ironworks. Four test-trenches were excavated within the boundaries of the proposed development.

No archaeological features or small finds were recovered from any of the trenches.
