This site is located in the ‘upper-quarter’ or ‘upper-end’ part of Dundalk, i.e. the southern end of the town which appears to have been settled by the 16th century and was enclosed by the mid-17th century. The line of the defences runs at the back of the development. The development comprised a long extension north-westwards from the existing premises. Nothing of archaeological interest was exposed during foundation-trenching.
Although a layer of cobbling overlying black soil with brick was exposed along the east side, there was no evidence to associate it with a layer of cobbling further to the north-west, and therefore the latter cobbling layer could not be dated. It probably dated from the period of use of the backyard during the modern period. Nothing of archaeological interest was exposed.
