Archaeological testing of a proposed extension to the rear of an existing retail outlet was carried out at No. 37, West Street, Drogheda, Co. Louth. Four test-trenches were excavated to depths varying between 1.5m and 3m in the area to be disturbed by the proposed new development. The site appeared very disturbed and it was only at a depth of 3m in the third trench that a possible medieval layer was encountered, a brown clay loam containing shell, charcoal and animal bone. It appeared to extend towards the eastern boundary of the site and was not excavated.
