In November 1997 human remains were discovered during construction work at Waterstown, near Sallins, Co. Kildare.132 The site was on top of a small sand and gravel ridge at the end of a lane leading to new building works, and the burial lay at a depth of c. 1m. All of the remains appear to have come from a 1.5m-high sandbank in a deposit laid down by a braided stream, probably an esker, which now forms the brow of the hill. The deposit appeared to have been relatively undisturbed until the recent construction works. The site of the burial had been almost completely destroyed and the remains were all out of context. There was no evidence for stone protection around the burial, nor were there any associated artefacts. The remains have not been examined but appear to be those of an adult (1997:49).
