The archaeological test-trenching consisted of two phases: the first centred on the proposed new access road and the second was in the area of the new buildings. The results showed that, in the vicinity of the new access road, boulder clay lay directly beneath ploughsoil. In the outer and inner yards boulder clay was again uncovered directly beneath modern and post-medieval surfaces, and the probable drainage gully, located to the west of the chapel, did not appear to be archaeologically significant. Similar negative evidence was uncovered in an examination of the soils beneath the demolished buildings. In summary, nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered in the area of the proposed development.
