Trial-trenching was undertaken at the site of a proposed house and stables at Furness, Co. Kildare. The site is on Furness estate, on which a simple nave and chancel church, SMR 19:24, datable to c. 1210, stands, about 130m to the north-west of the proposed building. However, a find of rock art, made in the neighbouring field in 1975 (SMR 19:25), had a more immediate bearing on this proposed development. The rock art is carved on an apparent erratic, and was found about 30m to the east of the proposed house, under 0.2m of ploughsoil. Trenching of the footprint of both house and stables did not reveal anything archaeological. Two field boundaries were uncovered and recorded.
