Monitoring was undertaken of the construction of a private dwelling in close proximity to a univallate ringfort in the townland of Corbally near Killorglin, Co. Kerry. The site is located on an eminence overlooking the Laune River valley, with expansive vistas in all directions.
Topsoil was stripped from the development area and standard trench foundations were subsequently excavated by mechanical digger. The development extended to within 9.7m of the monument.
No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were uncovered or recorded, and development proceeded.
Editor's note: This excavation, though carried out in 1996, was not reported on in time for inclusion in the bulletin for that year.
