Following the discovery of a hone, a bronze thimble and a disc quern in soil removed from a small field to the north of the tearooms at Kilmurvey in 1995, two test-trenches were opened in the field in 1996 as a bicycle park was proposed for the area. No archaeological features were uncovered although three substantial deposits of modern midden material were noted (Excavations 1996, 44). Monitoring was undertaken during soil-stripping of the field prior to construction of the bicycle park in 1997. Further midden material was uncovered but it too was of modern derivation.
