Two areas additional to those inspected in 1996 (Excavations 1996, 37) were monitored in 1997, one in March and one in July.
In the first phase five features of potential archaeological importance were investigated but all were revealed to be undiagnostic features or contexts of relatively modern origin. Only one artefact, a piece of medieval or post-medieval locally produced pottery, was found in the topsoil.
In the second phase five features of archaeological potential were investigated. They were of uncertain date but most were consistent with post-medieval to modern drainage. There were in all three stone-lined drains and one boundary ditch. The fifth feature was an area of oxidised clay. The only artefacts uncovered were post-medieval to modern in date.
