The site occupies an irregularly shaped area at the north end of the block bounded by North King Street, Church Street, Bow Street and Nicholas Avenue. The site is the property of Dublin Corporation and is presently occupied by buildings in various states of decay. The open yards on the site are bounded by high walls. As a result only limited areas were available for assessment. Full assessment of the site can only be undertaken when the standing buildings and walls have been demolished.
The assessment was carried out on 14 January 1997. Five trenches were excavated to subsoil using a tracked mechanical excavator. The overall results were consistent with the results from other sites assessed in the area. Where they occurred, the construction of cellars has destroyed all earlier deposits to below subsoil level. Where cellars did not occur, deposits of cultivated soil varying from 0.3m to 0.5m in thickness lay directly over subsoil. These deposits yielded only 18th-century finds. A possible area of cobbling was uncovered on subsoil in Trench 5. Subsoil, where not cut away by cellars, occurred at between 0.9m and 0.8m below ground level.
