This archaeological assessment was based on inspection of four trenches opened by mini-excavator on 25 March 1997. The development site lies outside the medieval city as illustrated by Rocque (1756). In 1719 St George's Church was founded on Hill Street, but in 1894 it was converted into an open area. The tower remains standing and the graveyard is now a playground.
Previous archaeological assessments on Parnell Street suggest that basement levels constructed in the 18th and 19th centuries have destroyed any archaeological soils or features that might have been expected. This assessment did not reveal any deposits of archaeological derivation, nor were any finds retrieved from the trenches.
