The 1997, final portion of the Balbriggan Bypass was monitored between 7 April and 7 October 1997. It was carried out in compliance with the recommendations made in an EIS.
One area of possible archaeological significance was found in Area 4, Stamullen. On examination it was found to consist of three shallow patches of burnt clay, ash and moist clay. No artefacts were recovered although some fragments of burnt animal bone and a cow tooth were found. The area had already been crossed by the gas pipeline and thus was disturbed. The deposits were therefore considered non-archaeological.
Otherwise no areas of archaeological significance were uncovered.
