This site was found as a result of archaeological monitoring of topsoil-stripping on the Northern Motorway/Balbriggan Bypass in compliance with the recommendations of an EIS.
The route included townlands in counties Dublin (Fingal) and Meath, OS 6" Sheets 1, 4 and 5, Co. Dublin, and Sheet 28, Co. Meath. The monitoring was carried out between 6 August and 31 October 1996.
Six archaeological sites were uncovered in the course of the monitoring and all have been fully excavated: this one was identified as a cinerary urn.
In addition to the above sites investigated, and those at Nos 100, 422, 434 and 436 (Excavations 1997), several pieces of worked flint and one large quartz crystal were recovered from the topsoil in the course of stripping. The remaining topsoil monitoring was completed in 1997.
Editor's note: This report was not received in time for inclusion in the bulletin for 1996.
