The unusual mound clearly visible on this small island in Strangford Lough was the focus for an excavation to determine the nature of the monument and to guide conservation efforts.
Initial results from a small-scale investigation, involving cutting an oblique trench through the edge of the mound, indicated that it might be a natural feature, such as a truncated drumlin. An overlying stony layer, however, contained several sherds of Late Bronze Age pottery.
