Cork County Council initiated a programme of consolidation work at St Molagga's Church in 1995. The ruined church is surrounded by a graveyard. To facilitate repair work to the limestone door ope, at the eastern end of the southern wall, a trench under the door was opened by hand. It measured 1.33m north-south, 2m east-west, and was 1m deep. The fill, a loose sandy silt, included a moderate amount of fragmentary human bone and large amounts of unhewn sandstone fragments. No grave-cuts, articulated bone, wall foundation trenches or cut stone fragments were recorded or recovered. The trench was excavated to a sufficient depth to establish a platform to enable consolidation work to commence.
