It was planned to extend a public house on the corner of White's Lane and Abbey Quay, an area within Ennis's zone of archaeological potential. Two trenches were hand-dug in the northern and southern sections of the site. The only sediment encountered was a mid-grey/brown silt loam which was dug to a depth of 1m. This same sediment was observed in an adjacent construction site and extended to a depth of approximately 2m.
It is hypothesised that this part of the town was prone to flooding and as a result was not developed until the 19th century.
