A town wall is represented in late seventeenth- and eighteenth-century illustrations and plans. This was located on site and examined where it crossed the line of proposed buildings.
The wall was mortared, 1.3m thick, and constructed close to the normal high-water mark overlooking the estuary to the north. Securely stratified pottery suggests a late seventeenth-century construction date for the wall, and for the adjoining George's Quay.
