A shallow, curving, ditch-like feature (5.6m wide, c. 12m long and 0.2m deep) was noted at this location in the archaeological EIS of the proposed Nenagh Bypass. A cutting (8m long by in wide) was excavated by hand across this feature to a maximum depth of 0.8m below present ground level. Nothing of archaeological significance was found. Natural occurred on average 0.16m below present ground level. The above-ground features were found to be remnants of a silted-up and pear-filled watercourse cutinto the marl. On the basis of the marl, this may have been a lake bed at one time; it is now in pasture and the water-table has been lowered by deep field-drains.
