The site lies approximately 800m to the south of the modern village of Lisronagh on the Clonmel-Fethard road. It is located in the southern part of the listed medieval town of Lisronagh, of which little remains. The borough of Lisronagh, unlike the neighbouring towns of Clonmel and Fethard, appears to have had an unsuccessful history and to have diminished in status. A reasonably well-preserved ruin of a castle, the remains of the burgh, a ruined Protestant church and graveyard and the remains of a medieval roadway survive.

The burgh of Lisronagh is c. 500m north of the site of the development. A number of test-holes were opened on the site. The testing confirmed the absence of archaeological remains. There was no indication in the soil profile that there was any archaeological activity on the site of the proposed development.
