The site had been identified in the EIA of the Nenagh Bypass as a possible barrow site consisting of a circular banked enclosure with a central hollow.
One trench was opened up across the shallow hollow and bottomed at subsoil. Excavation indicates the presence of a naturally occurring geological depression, with the subsoil sloping away quite sharply from the north-east of the trench. Stones and small boulders had naturally accumulated at the base of this slope. A homogeneous build-up of topsoil overlay these stones and subsoil and effectively levelled up the hollow.
