During monitoring of excavations for a slatted house to the north of Clonamicklon tower house and bawn, several archaeological features were identified and subsequently excavated. A large ditch, 8m wide with a flat base, outside the east wall of the bawn is likely to have functioned as a major drain. No datable finds were recovered from the fill of this ditch. A smaller ditch to the west pre-dates it and perhaps the bawn. A subrectangular ditch, two pits and some clay and gravel surfacing suggest that there was occupation to the east of the large ditch. In the absence of datable finds it is difficult to relate these features to the tower and bawn.
