Testing was carried out in advance of the construction of two apartments. The site is at the northern end of Gladstone Street, c. 100m to the north of the medieval town wall. It is located at the edge of the zone of archaeological potential as defined by the OPW. The site of the test excavation was part of the open countryside outside the walled town until the early nineteenth century. No significant archaeological remains occurred on the site.
The upper levels of the site were dominated by layers of concrete, rubble fill and deposits of ash, cinders, coal and charcoal. The underlying levels consisted of cultivated garden soil. The pottery assemblage found in the garden soil dated from the late seventeenth to the nineteenth century.
