An archaeological impact assessment was carried out at Stephen House, Stephen Street, Sligo, during October 1996.
Two test-pits and two trial-trenches were machine-excavated under archaeological supervision to the rear of the property.
The results showed that, at the southern end of the development area, there were no significant archaeological remains. However, at the northern end deposits up to 2m in depth survive, the lowest of which appeared to be contained within a pre-seventeenth-century, rock-cut feature.
