A series of soil samples were taken under licence in the topsoil 150m to the north-west of Rathcroghan Mound to see if shallow soil-sampling could be used to determine the sources of various magnetic gradiometry and susceptibility anomalies found in the vicinity of that monument. This sampling is a part of the ArchaeoGeophysical Imaging Project in the Rathcroghan complex funded by the Heritage Council (see Archaeology Ireland, Vol. 10, no. 3 (1996), 20–3).
