The site to be developed lies c. 200m north of Kilcomin Abbey and is adjacent to a ruined flour mill, both of which appear on the first edition of the OS map of 1838. Although the site lies at some distance from the abbey, there are indications in the surrounding field boundaries that it might lie within an outer enclosure surrounding the abbey. The line of the proposed building was trenched and 0.05–0.15m of topsoil was found to lie directly upon subsoil. No features of archaeological interest were revealed.
