Pre-development testing was undertaken here as part of the archaeological assessment of the Westport Water Supply Scheme-Clonkeen Extension. The area tested was adjacent to an enclosure, whose southern end has been cut through by the main Westport to Castlebar road. The area tested was south of the road.
An area measuring 70m east-west by 18m north-south was tested within the way-leave acquired by Mayo County Council. The stratigraphy consisted of a sod/topsoil layer which directly overlay a natural orange/white daub.
No archaeological features or small finds were recovered.
