St Columbkille's Well is a part of the important ecclesiastical complex at Oughaval.
The proposed house will be located 27m east of the holy well, while part of the roadway leading to it will be 9m from the well. An existing underground watermain and electric cable runs under the proposed development towards the holy well.
Six test-trenches were excavated by machine in the areas of all proposed ground disturbance within the proposed site boundary. No archaeological features or small finds were recovered from any of the trenches.
