Archaeological monitoring of a proposed extension at No. 13 Fair Street, Drogheda, was carried out in September 1996.
The site lies within the medieval walled town.
Four foundation trenches were excavated to depths of 1m, 0.8m, 1m and 1.1m respectively, in the area to the rear of the existing building at Fair Street. Monitoring indicated that the ground is fairly disturbed. There is a natural slope to the south of the site where all that exists is garden soil. The few finds uncovered were of modern or post-medieval date. As the trenches were only 1m in depth it is possible that archaeological layers survive below this. However, the ground below this level will not be disturbed by the proposed development.
