This site is located to the east and south of the corner tower known as 'The Devil's Battery' in the Irishtown. Seven cuttings were opened in the areas of the proposed development. In two of these, Cuttings 6 and 7, the base of the town wall was exposed. In both cases the wall was built on natural clay and there was no evidence for the possible fosse or ditch (cut through the rock) found on the northern side of New Road in 1988.
