Two sites were tested along the route. The first was located directly behind Sir Harry's Mall and was subsequently excavated by Kenneth Haley it is hoped to publish a summary of the results in Excavations 1997. The second was located between the south-eastern end of Sheep Street and Long Lane. Here some clearance of the overburden revealed a 22.5m-long stretch of the top of the town wall running northwest by south-east. This was not exposed as the area was unfenced.
