The area to either side of a small, mortared stone, single-span, arched bridge over a stream was identified as an area of archaeological potential in the EIS of the proposed Annacotty-Adare road improvement scheme. A cutting 5m long and 1m wide was excavated by hand, to a maximum depth of 0.15m, in a semicircular stone platform on the eastern side of the bridge. Nothing of archaeological significance was found, the stones having been laid down on a rough layer of hard-core, which was presumably contemporaneous with the construction of the bridge.
