Previous assessment work on this site by Celie O Rahilly (see Excavations 1996, No. 230) had revealed a possible L-shaped ditch, and the current work was designed to define this more closely and to investigate the interior.
A further nine trenches were opened; those on the interior produced nothing of significance, while the others, placed across the supposed line, showed a ditch terminating in mid-site. The apparent turn does not exist, and the feature which caused the initial interpretation was probably root disturbance from a tree. There was no dating evidence from the ditch, and further monitoring was recommended.
