The archaeological monitoring took place during Telecom Eireann pipe-laying in December 1995, supervised by Breandán Ó Ríordáin (Excavations 1995, 47), and in January 1996, supervised by the author.
Five trenches were dug into Canal/Basin Street. No finds of archaeological significance were recovered.
One trench was dug into Abbey Street. Disarticulated human skeletal remains were recovered from the southern end of the trench at depths of 0.53–0.84m. The remains may represent two adult females and showed evidence of periodontal disease.
