An archaeological evaluation was undertaken at the site of proposed house construction on 31 August 1996 in compliance with a condition of planning. A castle/tower house is said to have existed within the townland, although its precise location is unknown. The site is recorded in the SMR but has been delisted in the RMR Seven trenches with a combined length of 309.5m were excavated by machine in order to determine the nature and extent of any archaeological features or deposits that might exist within the confines of the site. No features of archaeological interest were uncovered during the course of this work. However, six sherds of medieval pottery were recovered from the area of the proposed house location.

Consequently, a watching brief was carried out on 12 October 1996, which entailed the supervision of topsoil-stripping of the areas of the house and driveway. A further 22 sherds of medieval pottery were recovered during the course of this work. All the pottery sherds were randomly dispersed both vertically and horizontally within the topsoil layer and within an area of c. 25m2.
