An archaeological evaluation was undertaken on 12 November 1996 in compliance with a condition of planning.

The development proposes to convert an existing house to an office/shop development, with an extension to the rear.

The rear area only consisted of a yard, the remaining garden area having been sold for development at some time in the past.

Two trenches were excavated by hand in order to determine the nature and extent of any possible archaeological features or deposits which might exist within the confines of the proposed development area. A stone-lined drain, of indeterminable date, was uncovered running in the direction of the street. Four sherds of medieval pottery were recovered from a loose ‘garden-soil’/topsoil which was sealed by a skim of concrete.

No further archaeological requirements were deemed necessary by the National Monuments Service.
