Archaeological monitoring was carried out on behalf of the Archaeological Services Unit Ltd, Oranmore, Co. Galway, at the request of the landowner to fulfil planning permission conditions. The proposed development consisted of a private dwelling-house and driveway, plus the installation of a septic tank and percolation area. This was to be located 5m east of a children’s burial-ground in the adjacent field. The total area to be excavated was no more than 0.203ha.

Monitoring of the soil-stripping down to natural bedrock took place on a single day in January. The site had been ploughed recently and had a uniform depth of 0.45m of topsoil and clay over karst limestone bedrock. No archaeological features were present.
