Archaeological test-trenching was carried out at the site bounded on the north by Henry Street, extending south towards Abbey Street and west towards Liffey Street. Test-trenching occurred on the Phase 1 (Liffey Street) portion of the site to fulfil a condition of the planning approval. Ten test-pits were opened, on 6 and 29 February 1996, but no archaeological soils or features were revealed. The old ground level had been removed on the site, with the earliest deposits dating to the late seventeenth century. The results of the assessment suggest that archaeological material, if it still survives, occurs in a thin old ground level which no longer exists across the area tested.
