Assessment of a small site in the yard of the Brunswick Street CBS boys' school was carried out in mid-February 1996. Four test-trenches were excavated by mechanical digger. In three of the trenches deposits of eighteenth/early nineteenth-century date were uncovered. In one of these trenches 85–90 foot bones of cattle were exposed, concentrated into an area of approximately 1m2. These bones, of little value for meat consumption, most probably originated from dumping associated with a nearby abattoir or slaughter-house. No other finds or features of archaeological interest were uncovered.
