Burnt mounds were located at various locations along the Belfast Transmission Pipeline. Wherever damage could be avoided excavation did not take place, but at two locations limited investigations were carried out. On one site (Site 9), in Kilcoan More townland, flint artefacts and sherds of Late Bronze Age pottery were found in association with two rectangular pits cut into the subsoil, part of a linear gully and several postholes. A substantial area of burnt material was exposed to the east of the excavated area. (See also No. 11, Excavations 1996).
