Three trenches tested the area south and south-west of the tower house in advance of an extension to the existing hotel facilities. Trench A was placed against the wall of the tower house but no base batter was found; a pit, filled with large water-rolled stones, was interpreted as a soak-pit but it yielded no dating evidence. Trenches B and C revealed evidence for substantial dumping of clay and building rubble to bring up the level of the ground here. This was probably carried out in the last hundred years.
