Between 21 and 30 June, eight trenches were excavated by Tele-com Éireann for the purpose of cable-laying. Six trenches were within the designated area of archaeological potential. One trench in Pearse St. revealed a deposit of badly decayed bone in the trench baulk. This trench was approx. 30m west of an excavation which was carried out by C. Duffy and V.J. Keeley in 1994 (Excavations 1994, 83). Here, human remains were found, thought to be associated with the medieval Augustinian friary. No other features of significance were found.
