On 22 and 23 September 1995 test-trenches were cut mechanically through a proposed development site beside William St., Cashel. Below a truncated cultivation soil a number of ditches and large pits were found, associated with medieval pottery. There was no sign of housing, and the features probably represent land division (into small fields rather than burgage plots) and pits for extracting silty clay, potentially for daub.
