Archaeological investigations took place between 3 and 7 July 1995. The site appeared as a stone mound covered by trees and vegetation but formed no immediately recognisable monument type, nor was it located on any of the OS maps. However, it lay within the proposed roadtake of the Ballysadare-Collooney Bypass and needed to be archaeologically resolved prior to road development.
Four trial-trenches were opened up across the site and excav-ated down to subsoil levels. These produced evidence of a relatively recent stone dump and a natural bedrock protrusion. In particular, no evidence of a megalithic tomb was found and nothing of archaeological importance was uncovered.
