Pre-development trial-trenching was carried out adjacent to the Church of Ireland building (dated to 1841), Athleague, Co. Roscommon. Archaeological trenching was required in the area of proposed service pipes in advance of the development, which involves converting the church into an Angling Centre. Two trial-trenches were excavated by mechanical digger, and though no archaeological features or material were revealed, there was evidence of ground disturbance in the past, as suggested by the presence of redeposited building material exposed in Trench 1.
