This souterrain was surveyed by Etienne Rynne in 1964 on behalf of the National Museum of Ireland. The chamber, passage I and the probable passage II run underground in a roughly north-east/south-west direction.

A series of eight test-trenches were excavated with a mechanical digger down to and into the natural boulder clay in the areas to be developed nearest the souterrain.

No archaeological features or small finds were recovered from any of the trenches. It would appear that the souterrain is an isolated example as there was no evidence of an enclosing element (i.e. a bank and ditch) either above or below present ground level.
