A test-pit was excavated by hand in an enclosed yard at the rear of Nos 13–14 Clanbrassil St., where planning permission had been granted for a 12m x 7m extension to a hotel. Deposits of mid-18th-century date were present at a depth of 0.95–1.25m. Below this level and resting on natural clay at a depth of 1.8m were medieval deposits, from which animal bone, shells, irregular pieces of fired clay and four sherds of pottery were recovered.
